Anaheim, CA — JSerra Varsity Girls tennis had a huge comeback today vs OLu; trailing 5-7 going into round 3, where they took 4 of the 6 remaining sets. Three of those sets were 6-3, 6-1 and 6-1 by our stingy doubles teams, giving up a total 5 games while adding 18 to our tally! Those teams, respectively were: Kylie/Sophia, Jazmine/Victoria and Anna/Aerin. This put the dagger into the Lancers. The previous match with OLu was home, but, much closer than the 12-6 JSerra victory would indicate. "We won 2 matches then, that could have gone either way, add in the 1 point home field advantage that I factor in," says KOach Kirk, "akin to the 3 points home teams get allowed with home games [by Vegas]. OLu is very well coached and we have had so many 9-9 matches with them the past 4 years it's becoming routine. If anyone had of asked me 'if you lose 6 of the 9 singles matches today, do think you will win?', I would have probably said 'No'. " Legit MVP's from today, Sophia and Kylie took all 3 doubles sets, while Jazmine and Victoria took 2. The 3rd round 6-1 victory by Jazmine and Victoria was especially vital as they had a slow start in round 1, 6-3 win, tough loss vs line 1 in round 2, but, rallied for the 6-1 win which was paramount. The reason the above numbers do not seem strange to KOach, is the amount of time we spend on doubles in practice, but, we ran into buzzsaws today in singles, unable to put a dent into their armor at lines 1 and 2. The chink in their armor today was at line 3 singles where we picked up 3 hard fought wins. Elise, Halley and Gabbi competed very well. KOach notes, "I really hope OLu is on the other half of our draw in CIF and that if/when we play them, it is at JSerra." GO LIONS !!!
