The Royals (12-2, 4-2 GSAC) were led by Ana Resendiz (JR/Ontario, CA) who scored 22 points and Shiane Talley (SO/Rialto, CA) nearly posted a double-double with 18 points and nine boards. The Royals got off to a hot start against Cal Lutheran opening the game with a 7-0 scoring run that included a triple from Rhianne Omori (JR/Honolulu, HI) and a layup each from Omori and Shiane Talley. After CLU got on the board, the Royals continued to grow their lead as they went on another 10-0 scoring run as HIU started to heat up from beyond the arc. Ana Resendiz closed out the first quarter with her second triple of the game to give the Royals a 20-6 lead after the first quarter. HIU sank three triples to open up the second frame, one from Keira McNamee (FR/Wilsonville, OR) and two more from Resendiz to grow the Royals lead to 21 points. The Royals scored 20 points in both the first and second quarter to lead Cal Lutheran 40-18 at halftime. Surie Camacho (SO/Downey, CA) scored first in the third quarter hitting a triple, followed by a layup from Rachel Capinia (JR/Hacienda Heights, CA) to continue the Royals' offense entering the second half. The Regals and Royals both scored 18 points in the third frame and the Royals led by 22 with ten minutes left to play. The Royals outscored the Regals 22-8 in the fourth quarter and went home with the win over Cal Lutheran, 80-44.
