San Juan Capistrano, CA — Turnabout is fair play - yeah baby! After losing earlier in the season 13-5 to SM with a mixed line-up, our “Red Squad” clipped their wings this afternoon with an 11-7 all-doubles whoopin’. While Varsity beat them twice, JV lost convincingly to them twice in dual match play - but kept 5 of them out of the the Trinity League tournament’s semi-finals by beating previously undefeated SM players in both singles and doubles on Wednesday. The good “habit” we want to nurture in you young players is NOT LOSING TO SM! With that directive in mind, we are recognizing those who won 100% of their sets with MVP honors: Abby Godber, Jacqueline Poli, Neeka Barkhordar, Faith Blower. We had a balanced attack this afternoon, in the sense that we won 6 sets in the upper 3 courts and 5 sets on 4,5 & 6. We were a tie-break away from winning 7 of 9 sets, strength vs strength: Bryanna Noorian and Brooke Bowman played very good tennis this afternoon, giving us an exciting final set, despite the 5-6 score. They beat the top 2 teams earlier. Faith Blower and Beeka Barkhordar won all 3 sets convincingly, with Kaitlyn Donner and Molly Harrington picking up an additional set in the opening round with a relatively ez win vs their #2 team in the 2nd round. Abby Godber and Jacqueline Poli each won both sets played for 100% MVP honors. Those single set winners contributing to our overall team victory deserve a shout out as well: Siena Livak and Colette Chang who each won once with Abby; and Elliana Castro and Ava Smith who each won once with Jacqueline. Chiara Manta and Lucca Lutz won a crucial set in the opening round up on court #6, 6-4, which gave us a 4-2 lead going into round #2. You will be seeing some of those girls for 3 more years, so getting this early win is good. You can thank your parents for choosing JSerra as your high school home of the best, true NO-CUT girls tennis team in Orange County. And we can all thank them for their tremendous fan support this year. You ROCK! Next up: final FS match of the year at San Clemente, Red Squad - 10am. 9:15 warm-up.
