Sandy Hook, CT — Newtown High School’s girls’ soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the South-West Conference Tournament in dramatic fashion. Third-seeded Newtown edged visiting and sixth-seeded Immaculate of Danbury 1-0 in overtime on October 29. Riley Powers took a pass from Joey Libero along the left wing and ended the game with a blast to the right side of the goal, sparking a celebration on the field. The Nighthawks will play an opponent to be determined in the November 2 semis.
