claremont, CA — 5 matches in 8 school days, 100's miles traveled, lottsa missed schoolwork, 63 sets won vs 27 sets lost = JSerra's first ever CIF tennis championship. (Boys have lost twice in the finals, 9-9 75-71 and last year 8-10), but, this was good as gold! "We hosted this same team day1of the 2021 season" noted KOach."They trounced us. My SOP's weren't eligible yet and I threw the kitchen sink at them in the 3rd round. I could tell by their facial expressions during lineup that they sensed something was 'up', I knew we were going to win right then." Halle, one of our 'surprises' captured 2 sets and would most likely have won the 3rd had the umpire been called earlier AND had she stayed on the court. Elise and Victoria each picked up singles sets. The backbone of this team, our doubles lineup, took 6 of the 9 sets and saved the day! Jazmine, our other new addition/surprise, playing with Gabbi, swept 3 sets, while Anna/Aeri and Kylie/Sophia to 2 each. Anna and Aerin's heartbreaker-tiebreaker loss 9-7, a 1.5 hour set, took it's toll, but, they recovered to close out their round 2 match 6-4. Towards the end of the match, just after Halle's only loss, JSerra 8 - Foothill 7, the Lions needed 2 of the remaining 3 sets for a 10-8 win. Side by side, Kylie and Sophie captured the 9th set while Gabbi/Jazmine followed suit a few minutes later. Some mathematicians had done their homework and figured out JSerra had the match won with the 9th point by total game count, but, KOach felt better with the legit 10th set. "I will probably revisit this win in a year ending recap, I am not doing it justice; just too spent after the adrenaline rush and results" KOach I especially want to thank our PARENTS, fans, subs who attended with us!, athletic dept, coaches and AD that drove up and Dr. Aftabi for treating us to dinner after... It's a GREAT DAY TO BE A LION !!!
