Howell, MI — HOWELL, Mich. -- The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team ran away from the Cleary University Cougars with a 13-2 victory on Tuesday afternoon in Howell, Mich. The Cardinals (1-4) used a big first inning to earn the victory, scoring seven runs. Game Breakdown: SVSU got the scoring started right away in the top of the first inning when a Cleary error made the score 1-0. Martin Money and Maven Gordon made the score 3-0 with RBI singles. A balk by the Cougars made it 4-0. Jeffrey Reseigh drove in a run with a single to make it 5-0. Reseigh later reached home when Colin Cornwell was hit by the pitch. Tucker Roe drove in the final run of the first inning for SVSU when he reached a fielders choice and Jaccar Watkins scored. The Cougars got a run back in the bottom of the second, before a two-run home run by Cornwell in the top of the third extended the lead to 9-1. An Andrew Burke RBI single made it 10-1 SVSU. Cleary scored one more run in the bottom of the seventh. A sacrifice fly by Nolan Raymond and an RBI triple by Watkins made it 13-2, and SVSU cruised to victory. Reed Raymond got the start on the mound for the Cardinals and earned the win, going 6.0 innings, allowing one run, five hits, and striking out seven batters. Up next: SVSU will make the trip to Florida for the RussMatt Invitational. The Cardinals will face Tiffin University at 11 am Friday in Auburndale, Fla.
