Fullerton, CA — FULLERTON – Fullerton gained 385 yards of offense and had six players score touchdowns in a 41-14 victory over Sunny Hills in a Freeway League game Friday at Fullerton High. The victory put Fullerton (4-3, 2-0) in a first-place tie with La Habra, which defeated Troy, 47-0, on Friday. Junior quarterback Gavin Klepper completed 12 of 23 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns. Klepper’s favorite target was Isaiah Vejar, who had six receptions for 128 yards and a touchdown. The Indians got a huge momentum boost in the final seconds of the first half when Klepper floated a 31-yard pass to Vejar, who made a diving catch in the end zone between two defenders to give the Indians a 21-0 lead. Dylan Nicholson, Noel Posey, Klepper and D.J. Irby had rushing touchdowns for Fullerton. Irby’s was the most spectacular. Fullerton was leading 34-7 in the fourth quarter when Irby, a sophomore, took the handoff on a sweep to the right, broke free from a defender and raced 59 yards for a touchdown. After being held to 51 yards against La Habra in Week 6 of the season, Sunny Hills running back Alex Jung, the county’s leading rusher, ran for 124 yards and a touchdown on 31 carries. Jung was held to 41 yards in the first half and really wasn’t a factor until the third quarter, when Sunny Hills switched to a wing-t offense with Jung at quarterback. Jung ran for 38 yards from the quarterback spot during a 14-play, 73-yard scoring drive, capped by a 1-yard touchdown run from 300-pound Marquis Knighten, who normally plays on the line. Knighten’s touchdown made the score 27-7 and came with 1:28 left in the third quarter. Jung scored on a 1-yard run came with 3:47 left in the game.
