Rancho Santa Margarita, CA — Lions upset Eagles in Trinity League opener 10-8 on their home courts. According to their assistant coach, Corey, that’s the first league JV loss in many years. (We are going to fact check that🤪) Huge win regardless - great job guys! MVP’s Marco Belciano, Mikey Junge and Sam Gou swept all 9 possible singles sets, with enough margin of victory to give us a 69-61 point advantage …. which was not needed because #1 doubles team of Max Chiotis and Lucas Johnson won the final set of the day 6-5 in a tie-breaker, giving us an outright 10-8 win. Had we tied 9-9, we would have won on game count, but an outright win is always better. Kudos to good effort by Cash Belciano and Nicholas Barrios who picked up valuable games at #2 doubles, also giving us a margin of victory on game count. Well played. At the end of the 2nd round, the score was totally tied in sets and games: 6-6, 43-43! As the 3rd round progressed, singles widened the game count to a mathematical win, but Max and Lucas gave everyone a good show at the end. 1 win, no losses in league b-a-b-y! Well done.
