San Juan Capistrano, CA — We lost to this team 3 to 15 a couple of weeks ago...KOach gave his ALAMO speech today and drew the line in the sand and the whole team bought in. Just as the real battle in San Antonio, we were severely overmatched in the singles area and gave up 8 of 9 sets, BUT, this was an improvement over last time. The lone set was an solid 6-1 victory from Zach Champine vs Servite line 3. Our doubles stuck to KOach's game plan and took 6 of the 9 sets, barely missing out on the last match of the day, where the Lions were tripped up in a tiebreaker. That was the doubles team of Joe Bond [ a Servite transfer playing his old teammates] with Esteban Johnson. These two picked up wins at lines 2 and 3. The big bright spot of the was GAry Davidson with Brady Schaefgen as they again sweep 3 of 3 sets played, positioning themselves as the preeminent duo of the Trinity League. Their scores were, 6-1, 6-3, 6-2... very solid doubles play. We travel to OLu Wednesday, hopefully at full strength. The Lions need to win their last 2 matches to stay 'bowl-eligible' . "Maybe we will get to the Alamo Bowl!" ;) GO LIONS
