San Marcos, CA — Mission Hills Grizzlies Varsity ran off with the lead late in the game in a 5-4 victory over Classical Academy on Monday. Mission Hills Grizzlies Varsity was down 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Kyle Rogers homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs. Mission Hills Grizzlies Varsity earned the victory despite allowing Classical Academy to score three runs in the fourth inning. Classical Academy scored its runs on a home run by Piceno. Mission Hills Grizzlies Varsity opened up scoring in the second inning, when Cody Hoffman doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Classical Academy evened things up at three in the top of the fourth inning. Classical Academy scored three runs when Piceno homered. Mitchell Thomas led things off on the mound for Mission Hills Grizzlies Varsity. The hurler surrendered three runs on three hits over three and a third innings, striking out two. Woolsey was on the mound for Classical Academy. The hurler went six innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, striking out nine and walking one.
