Stratford, CT — The return of the Penders Memorial Scholarship Game after 2 years off due to Covid concerns was worth the wait. East Catholic and Stratford High, two programs linked with Penders Family ties, had played 37 straight times between 1982 and 2019. But coming through after the Covid 2 year interruption, the 2022 edition of the game surely brought some exciting baseball to Penders Field. East Catholic scored 5 runs only 4 hits but took advantage of 5 base on balls and 3 errors by Stratford. Senior Brady Knorr started for Stratford and completed 5 full innings striking out 6, walking 3 and giving up 3 hits and 3 runs. Senior J.J. Romatzick took over for Brady Knorr in the 6th and went 2 2/3 innings striking out 3, walking 2, and giving up 1 hit and 2 runs. Stratford was led at the plate by J.J. Romatzick who had 3 solid hits in 4 times up at the plate. He also drove in two big runs and scored one himself. Junior Ben Petrie with two and Junior Jake Kszywanos with one had the other Stratford hits. Senior Ron Kerkes scored 2 runs and 2 stolen bases. Senior Aidan Orsbee also chipped in a RBI with an opposite field sacrifice fly. Stratford’s record dropped to 2-2 with the contest.
