Stratford, CT — Stratford returned to Penders Field on Friday and outlasted Weston in a SWC league contest 5-4 in eight innings. Junior Ben Petrie had quite the day both on the mound and at the plate. Petrie started for Stratford and threw a full 7 innings spacing out 4 Weston runs and yielding 8 hits. Petrie’s 2 run double in the bottom of the first with two outs followed by Sophomore Ty Owen’s base hit up the middle got Stratford out to an early 3-0 lead. Weston responded with 3 in the 2nd inning and 1 more on top of the 7th before Stratford tied things back up in the bottom when Junior Jake Kszywanos scored on a bases loaded walk by Senior Aidan Ormsbee. After Junior Joe Booska relieved Petrie starting the 8, he held Weston scoreless. Then in the bottom of the 8th, Junior Conor Lesczczynski drew a big walk, re-entered runner Brady Knorr stole 2nd, Jake Kszywanos also then walked, and both runners then were balked to 2nd and 3rd. That is when Ben Petrie delivered a sac fly to RF scoring Brady Knorr from third. Joe Booska picked up the win. Ben Petrie finished the day going 2-4 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI. Senior J.J. Romatzick added 2 hits of his own and played great defense once again out at shortstop. Stratford returns to action on Monday at Penders again Pomperaug in a non league match-up. Game time is set for 4:15.
