Stratford, CT — Stratford and Bunnell met in a non-league action on Saturday morning at Penders Field and the visiting team Bunnell came away with a big 3-2 victory. Bunnell’s starting pitcher Alex Binion was outstanding through six innings, kept Stratford batters off balance throughout, & had an extremely low pitch count as he cleverly pitched to contact & had Stratford chasing many first pitches. Bunnell scored one in the first inning as Carlo Maselli singled in leadoff hitter Luke Dawson who also singled solidly to start the contest. Bunnell’s other two runs came in the top of the 5th as Dan Lombard came through with a clutch 2 RBI hit stretching the lead. Stratford only mustered two hits through 6 innings of play but finally came alive in the 7th with Brady Knorr doubling, Ben Petrie tripling, and Joe Booska singling. Following a sac bunt and a base on balls leading to Stratford having the potential tying and winning runs on first and second, Bunnell reliever Nathan Verkovad shut the door by way of a second out strike out and end the game fly out. Stratford’s Ben Petrie went the full route for Stratford taking the loss.
