San Juan Capistrano, CA — Visiting Coach Richard Kosai stepped up to add this fill-in match for our JV boys after we found out we lost 6 Trinity League matches due to 3 schools not fielding JV teams. And then that happened to his team just this week! So the extra match, as lopsided as it was, helped out both programs. In anticipation of a pretty sound victory, we mixed up our line-up a bit, including subbing in some Frosh Soph team members. Starting singles players: Sam Gou, Lucas Johnson and Cash Belciano all won 1st round sets, and then were sub’d out to give some other guys a chance to play singles. Rookie JT Lentz played singles in rounds 2 & 3, as did Max Chiotis and Nicholas Barrios. Nick and Max won 2 sets, Max coming back from 2-5 in final set to win 5 straight games for a huge 7-5 victory in the afternoon’s final set. JT played their top 2 players back to back, performing well in his singles debut. We “tripped” out our doubles, assigning 3 players to each line so they could all play twice. Marco Belciano, Mikey Junge and Landon Sachs all won 2 sets played, 1 set with each player, earning MVP honors. At line #2, Jordan Gessin, Logan Lebsack and Shaunt Karageozian won all 3 sets played, 2 each for MVP honors. Sean Do gets MVP honors, winning 2 sets played at line #3, one helping Christopher Kempf win his first tennis set vs another school! and one with Ashton Peasley. We finished the afternoon B-B-Qing some hotdogs for both teams and spectators. It was a good day to be a LION! :) Next up: Thursday, March 10th home vs Portola, 3pm.
