Salina, KS — Goddard Lions Varsity took the lead late and defeated Salina Central 8-6 on Friday. The game was tied at five with Goddard Lions Varsity batting in the top of the sixth when Connor Myers-Elder's wild pitch allowed one run to score for Goddard Lions Varsity. Salina Central scored four runs in the fourth inning, but Goddard Lions Varsity still managed to pull out the victory. Cobb, Mason Gary, and Classen all contributed in the big inning with RBIs. Goddard Lions Varsity got things started in the first inning. Goddard Lions Varsity scored one run when Lake Hamilton singled. Josh Winkle pitched Goddard Lions Varsity to victory. The bulldog allowed six hits and four runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking one. Brett McGee and Mason Lubbers entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Lubbers recorded the last two outs to earn the save for Goddard Lions Varsity. Keim-Owens took the loss for Salina Central. The bulldog went one inning, allowing two runs on one hit and striking out one. Parker Kavanagh started the game for Salina Central. Kavanagh surrendered three runs on two hits over one-third of an inning, striking out one and walking one Goddard Lions Varsity collected nine hits on the day. Austin Winter, Colton Watkins, and Mason Healy each racked up multiple hits for Goddard Lions Varsity. Winter went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Goddard Lions Varsity in hits. Brooks Richardson led Salina Central with three hits in three at bats.
