Wichita, KS — Goddard Lions Varsity watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 9-3 loss to Maize South on Tuesday. Maize South took the lead on a home run in the first inning. The Goddard Lions Varsity struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Maize South, giving up nine runs. Maize South fired up the offense in the first inning. Maize South scored three runs when McNew homered. Goddard Lions Varsity notched three runs in the fifth inning. Tanner Peoples and Mason Healy all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. Maize South scored four runs in the sixth inning. McNew, Epp, Darrenkamp, and Lynch powered the big inning with RBIs. Epp took the win for Maize South. The ace surrendered three runs on five hits over five innings, striking out eight and walking one. Seals threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
