Wichita, KS — Both teams were strong on the hill on Tuesday, but Maize South was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over Goddard Lions Varsity on Tuesday. Seth Wilhelm started the game for Goddard Lions Varsity and recorded eight outs. Goddard Lions Varsity lost despite out-hitting Maize South four to two. Goddard Lions Varsity got things moving in the first inning. Goddard Lions Varsity scored one run when Mason Lubbers singled. In the bottom of the first inning, Maize South tied things up at one when McNew grounded out, scoring one run. Maize South pulled away for good with one run in the third inning. In the third Wilhelm induced Akers to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored. Youngdahl got the win for Maize South. Youngdahl surrendered one run on four hits over seven innings, striking out five. Wilhelm took the loss for Goddard Lions Varsity. The righthander went two and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on two hits, striking out two and walking zero. Goddard Lions Varsity racked up four hits on the day. Lake Hamilton and Lubbers each managed multiple hits for Goddard Lions Varsity. Lubbers and Hamilton each collected two hits to lead Goddard Lions Varsity.
