Burnsville, MN — Wednesday's game against Eastview Lightning Varsity was a heartbreaker for Burnsville Varsity Blaze, as they lost the lead late in a 9-5 defeat. The Blaze led 5-3 going into the top of the seventh but gave up 6 runs to the Lightning. The Blaze got on the board in the first inning scoring 4 runs. After singles by Jake Struzyk and Jacob Neutz, Drake Sloan knocked in the first run on an error on a hard ground ball to the Lightning third basemen scoring Stuzyk. Jonah Dawson then doubled to left center, scoring Neutz and Sloan. Connor Quimby singled on a line drive to center field, scoring Dawson. Eastview battled back with a run in the third and two runs in the fourth to close the Blaze lead to 4-3. In the bottom of the fifth, the Blaze added another run on doubles by Dawson and Quimby. Collin Heckman started the game for the Blaze. Heckman allowed four hits and three runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out four. Eli Keirstead came on in relief in the fourth inning and took the loss for the Blaze. The lefthander allowed three hits and six runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out two. Struzyk faced four batters in the seventh, getting the final 2 outs of the game. The Blaze scattered nine hits in the game.
