Poway, CA — Championship game started at 4:20 p.m., and boy what a game it was! East County was an awesome opponent, throwing some heat from their pitcher. But our girls battled back, and scored early on. #24 Ava Bynes had a beautiful sacrificial bunt, as did #1 Destinee Amaya, which set up our girls to cross home plate. #8 Savanna Arce pitched to #77 Bella Mendez, and East County scored a few runs as well. It was a very close game, and by the end of the 6th inning Cruzers were up by 1 run, after a beautiful line drive up third base line by #22 Melody (Mello) White. That triple let two runs in to get the score of 5 runs. East County battled and scored 2 runs, to bring their total to 4. Cruzers had to hold them, and they did exactly that! East County's first two batter hit wobblers directly to the pitcher, who got them out at 1st. Then the final batter came up to bat, fouling off several pitches. It was a nail biter but #8 Arce struck her out, giving the Cruzers their 4th first place tournament out of 5 tournaments this season! What a game, what a weekend, and what a season so far! This weekend (6/23) Cruzers play at Bradley park, San Marcos in B Districts, which will decide who goes to the States competition, held in Lancaster, CA.
