Ventura, CA — Down to its fourth-string quarterback, the host Bulldogs struggled in falling to 0-2. “West Ranch is a good team and they’ve got some good players and a lot of experience,” Buena coach Ryan Bolland said. “But we’ve got a long way to go.” Starting quarterback Zane Carter missed his second straight game with a “health situation.” Backup Ty Weeks also missed the game with an injury. “We’ve got to find a way to do things that we’re supposed to do, technique-wise and assignment-wise,” Bolland said. Running back Camden Walker, filling in behind center, completed 6 of 15 passes for 57 yards and ran for a team-high 32 yards. Colin Guenther had three catches for 42 yards for Buena, which trailed 42-0 at the half. Buena opens Channel League play at Dos Pueblos this Friday.
