Ventura, CA — Despite a pair of leads in the first half, the Bulldogs fell in their Channel League showdown to drop out of a first-place tie in the standings. Zane Carter ran for two touchdowns and Ty Weeks ran for another for Buena (5-4), which fell to 5-2 in league play. “Over the course of the game, we had a lot of small errors that compounded,” Buena coach Ryan Bolland said. “We just weren’t able to match their level of execution. They’re a good team.” Colin Guenther caught six passes for 75 yards and Camden Walker ran for 90 yards on nine carries to lead Buena. Walker also made 10 tackles on defense. Erick Guzman had an interception. Carter’s TD runs of 15 and 2 yards gave Buena a 14-7 lead in the first quarter. After Santa Barbara retook the lead, Carter’s field goal put Buena up 17-15 in the second quarter. “We started off pretty well on both sides of the ball,” Bolland said. Santa Barbara (8-1, 6-1) scored 20 straight points to build a 35-17 lead in the fourth quarter. Buena visits Pacifica this Friday in its regular-season finale.
