Clewiston, FL — The Centennial Eagles went on the road to Clewiston in Week 1 of the regular season and pulled out a 16-9 victory. Both defenses played tough football in the low scoring contest. The Eagles defense played lights out, forcing multiple turnovers, including 2 INT's by Ricky Cooper and Chandler Perceval. The defense held the Tigers to 1 score, while the Tigers tacked on 2 points via safety on an errant punt snap out of the back of the endzone. The DL had a great night, creating penetration and disrupting the running attack of the Tigers. Defensive standouts included LB Judah Michel with multiple sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery, DJ Dunbar with a fumble recovery, and Safety Anthony Saget with 3 TD saving tackles. The Eagles offense moved the ball well and did not turn it over, but failed to capitalize on several opportunities. The offense finally found the endzone late in the 4th quarter when Malik Torres connected with Isaiah Roberts for a 36 yard TD pass. Roberts led the Eagles with 58 yards receiving and the score, while Xavion Griffin led the team in receptions with 6. Torres did a great job of spreading around the ball, connecting with 10 different receivers on the night. RB Kyeshauwn McClackion led the ground attack with 37 yards rushing on 6 carries, and the OL played an outstanding game, picking up multiple blitzes versus the attacking front of the Tigers. K/P Lamar Wilson had an outstanding night, driving home 3-4 FG's (1 block) and tacking on the XP after the Roberts TD. The Eagles (1-0) will travel to Deland (0-1) in Week 2.
