San Juan Capistrano, CA — JV “travel squads” S & A took care of business this afternoon, defeating the visiting Dolphins 17-1. We lost to their JV team last year. Today was a big turnaround for our team and program, as varsity also defeated Dana Hills 18-0. The Dolphins were missing a singles player, so we had to rearrange our lineup a bit. Still, everybody got to play today. We’re giving MVP honors to our “bench” players, who came in and did an admirable job playing doubles this afternoon: Ava Smith with Colette Chang, and Farah Aslamyar with Jacqueline Poli, all filling in at line 3 doubles after Sophia Stewart and Isabella Aftabi defeated Dana’s line 3 team 6-0 in the opening round. Ava and Colette moved up to defeat their line 2 team in the 2nd round; followed by Farah and Jacqueline who rotated up to defeat their top doubles team 6-4 in a very exciting come from behind victory. Well played ladies. “Triplet teams” assigned to both lines of #1 and #2 doubles were all successful - joining the 100% club today. Newly elected team Captain Ava Hetland with Olivia Nowlan and Caitlyn Davidson all won 2 sets, teaming once with each other. Same said of Alma Bayat, Cecilia Nama and Hailey Klein. Great job today. Sophia Staff and Neeka Barkhordar won 2 of 2 sets played, while Natalia Gitibin picked up the 17th set against their top singles player in the final round. Next up: Wed. Aug. 31st, home vs Crean Lutheran, 2:30pm - squads S & B. Stay hydrated, drink lots of water in morning and lunchtime.
