Rancho Santa Margarita, CA — JV takes commanding lead in Trinity League standings, undefeated after 6 matches, w Orange Lutheran and Rosary left on schedule. MD has 3 losses, SM has 2 - they play again next Thursday. In pregame “speech” we talked about “playing like the champions you are” and challenged them to “go out and win as many sets as possible in 1st round” in order to “shock and awe” them. And oh yeah, no trophy or championship T-Shirt that says “Trinity League Co -Champions”. Well, shock and awe they did, winning 5 of 6 in first round, going on to lose no other sets all afternoon. We took the fight “to them” on their own courts and then “outta them.” Cecilia Nama won her only set played (doubles, round 1) as did Isabella Aftabi (singles, round 3.) Also joining the 100% club today, kudos to Hailey Klein who won 2nd and 3rd round sets with Sophia Stewart at line 3 doubles. Sophia Stewart won all 3 sets played. We’ll done ladies! Although dropping a singles set in the first round, Neeka Barkhordar made their best player go for 1hr 15 min in opening round, and wore her out before she had to move up to play Alma Bayat, who battled her for 1hr 30min. Alma came back from 2-4 to win 4 straight, very long games. That is most likely her only loss for the season (except she forfeited the 3rd round to Sophia Staff - too tired to go on.). Caitlyn Davidson with Natalia Gitibin (#2) and Olivia Nowlan with Ava Hetland each won all 3 sets played, to join the 100% club today. As this was a total team win, with everybody doing what was asked of them today, MVP honors go to the entire team - nobody being singled out. C-O-N-G-R-A-T-U-L-A-T-I-O-N-S !!! Job One: take care of Rosary and OLu for the title. Job Two: practice hard so we can go back to SMCHS and outperform the top players in the Trinity League Tournament in 2 weeks. Next up: Rosary at home next Thursday, Oct. 20th.
