CA — Tough recap to write, any grammar or spelling errors, blame Uncle Nearest ! 🤪 2nd day in a row, Frosh / Soph drops a close one 8-10 :-( We dropped 3 tie-breakers this afternoon, any one of which would have given us a 9-9 win on game count. 2 of those 3 were in the first round; 2 of those should not have gone into tie-breakers. Those are just the facts. However, it’s not so ez when it comes down to all the pressure with everyone watching….. Ironic that my pep talk to Maya and Sammy in the 3rd round was: “hey, hurry up and win this set, because this match is going to come down to the last set, possible game count, with 35-40 people all watching you….and I don’t want you in that situation.” They “followed instructions” with a 6-4 win. Bites losing to SM, any sport, any day. But you know what, there was a lot of good, exciting tennis played today and the fans got their money’s worth. It was uphill battle all afternoon after being down 2-4 at end of the first round. Next 2 rounds were even at 3 apiece. With one set done in 3rd round, we were down 5-8 after the 13th set. We won 3 sets in a row to close the gap, 8-8, with 8-10 being the true and unfortunately final score. Regarding the message this morning…. False alarm. Someone wrote a 2-6 loss as a 6-2 win on our clipboard, which made it look like 9-9. Still a loss on the books, sorry. 100% club and MVP honors today to: Elliana Castro - line 1 doubles; Faith Blower, Riley Godber and Molly Harrington who swept line 2 doubles. Great job ladies! Special shout out to Lucca Lutz with Aurora Moore AND Sammy Ringgold with Maya Stroupe who were the only teams to win sets on courts 4,5,6. Alexandra Marsh and Maddy Valente picked up a crucial 3rd round win on court #1 which got us closer to the prize. Next up: at Newport Harbor, Saturday, Oct. 8th - 9:30am.
