Fountain Valley, CA — We went to Fountain Valley a little short-handed w a few players sick and a few on retreat. Playing a standard 3x3 doubles and 3x3 singles for a total of 18 sets, we at least did not get “bagel’d” thanks to the efforts of MVP for the day, Gia Banks-Meeker. Gia defeated their #3 singles player 6-2 in round 2. For those DH-2 parents and spectators wondering why we went there twice, it was to free up our home courts for a match vs Mater Dei going on at the same time. They can’t get courts at Los Cab on Fri or Sat for their FS team, so we are hosting MD twice, and therefore visited Ft. Vlly twice. Thank you parent drivers for making that trip again. Despite the lopsided score, it was an enjoyable afternoon of tennis. With 12 players, not playing all doubles, 9 players got 2 full sets in, and singles players got 3 sets in. Ft Vlly had a testing day, so there was no 6th period PE w a bunch of extra people all over the place and old practice balls lying around. Weather was nice and cool, and their drum corp wasn’t practicing right next to the tennis courts like usual. Thank you Abbey Damron for volunteering to play singles today - you ROCK! Your positive attitude and enthusiasm are unmatched - bottle it and sell it!!! Viana and Gia played some familiar “faces” today: red hat, green shoes and “pantalones.” Without Aurora there to wear them down, they were a bit stronger today, but all 3 of our singles players gave great effort. Our trio of doubles actually played better than a couple of weeks ago. Line 3 doubles: Emily Meyer, Natalie Schumacher and Delaney Mills all played well together, with Delaney and Natalie getting to 4-4 before bowing out at 4-6. Maddy Shahinian and Melina Kashi were ahead most of the opening set at line #2, and even though they came up short-handed 4-6; they lost a couple of “no ad” points was the difference. Brooke Bowman rounded out the trio for 2 more sets, one each w the other two. Some of the best tennis and longest points were played at line #1 doubles where Emma Doss and Mia DeWames opened up vs the Baron’s top team. Most of the games were “no ad’s” with long, singles type rallies. We’ll played. Sammy Ringgold rounded out the trio, and all 3 sets at line #1 were fun to watch and competitive. Next up: Wednesday, Oct. 19th. DH-1 home vs Foothill, 2:30 pm.
