Seven different players scored for Parkland, including hat tricks for Faith Niebrugge and Athenais Ouairy in their college debut. The Cobras outshot the Eagles 16-2 as Shiann Haymaker made her first career start in goal for Parkland, recording one save in the clean sheet. "I am so proud of how this team played today," head coach Dan Vogelsang said after the game. "It has been a while since our program has scored this many goals in one game, let alone pick up a season-opening victory. When this team was being assembled, I kept thinking we have so much power and talent that a lot of good things are going to happen this season." The Cobras (1-0-0) got on the board early and often, with Athenais Ouairy scoring in the 2nd minute before assisting Lauren Schnepper in the 4th. Ouairy found the back of the net again in the 6th, this time assisted by Schnepper, to give the Cobras a 4-0 lead over the Eagles (0-1-0). Ouairy was not done helping out, as the Toronto native assisted Faith Niebrugge in the 8th and then Rebecca Murdoch in the 11th. Niebrugge struck next, firing home her second goal of the game in the 18th minute, and then it was Bridget DeLorenzo's turn, as the sophomore scored an unassisted goal in the 21st. Ouairy finished off her hat trick in the 25th minute on a goal assisted by Niebrugge to make the score 8-0, before Niebrugge scored two quick goals herself in the 28th and 32nd minute to make it two Cobra hat tricks on the day. Sophomore Nancy Robey added her name to the score sheet in the 34th minute and Faith Niebrugge dropped in her fourth goal of the day, giving the Cobras a 12-0 lead just before the whistle blew for halftime. Not to be outdone by her teammate, Athenais Ouairy scored her fourth goal early in the second half and the Parkland defense held tough the rest of the way as the Cobras coasted to a 13-0 home win on opening day. "This team checks off every trait you want in a team, and I am so excited to see what the future holds for them," Vogelsang added after the 1-0 start. Up next, Parkland is set to host No. 8 South Suburban College (0-0) in Champaign on Sunday, August 28th. Kick off against the Bulldogs is scheduled for 11 AM.
