Goleta, CA — There’s no coincidence that the Bulldogs’ first win coincided with the return of their star quarterback. After missing the first two games of the season for health reasons, senior Zane Carter threw for 111 yards and a touchdown and ran for 113 yards and a TD in his senior debut. “He’s really good,” Buena coach Ryan Bolland said of The Star's reigning All-County Offensive Player of the Year. Buena (1-2) overcame a nightmare start, which included turnovers on its first two possessions, by scoring on four straight possessions to build a 28-7 lead. “It was a nightmare start,” Bolland said. “We played really poorly in the first quarter.” Buena scored 35 straight points after host Dos Pueblos took a 7-0 lead with a 62-yard TD pass on the sixth snap of the game. “It just took us a little while to get going,” Bolland said. Carter hit James O’Brien with a 15-yard TD pass and had TD runs of 35 yards and 1 yard. Camden Walker’s 43-yard TD run pushed the lead to 28-7 with 11:19 left in the third quarter. Kyle Blanks had a 28-yard TD run with 7:19 left in the fourth quarter. Buena plays at Channel Islands this Friday.
