Vista, CA — This Vista Longhorns improved to 2-1 by beating the Murrieta BattleHawks by a score of 26-6 on Saturday. Vista started the scoring by taking the opening possession 63 yards for the touchdown and 7-0 lead after the successful PAT. The BattleHawks were held on their opening possession to zero yards and had lined up in punt formation, but the snap sailed over the head of the punter. The miscue gave Vista a first down at the Murietta 37-yard line. The mistake proved fatal as Vista wasted little time in putting additional points on the board taking a 13-0 advantage into halftime. The second half started out very much like the first with Vista recovering an inadvertent on-side kick deep in Murietta's territory. 4 plays later the Longhorns crossed the goal line again to take a 20-0 lead mid-way through quarter 3. Vista capped off its scoring in the 4th quarter on a 42 yard run over the left side. Vista defense, which played stellar all game gave up a cheap touchdown with less than 5 seconds to go in the game to bring the final tally to 26-6. Next week the Longhorns will hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to Temecula to face the Fighting Bruins. The Fighting Bruins are looking to even their record on the season after beating the Point Loma Pointers (Gold) 28-12. Game time is set for 1pm.
