Medford, OR — Offense, defense, goalkeeping- you name it, the Cascade Christian Challengers had it in a 3-0 shutout of Lost River/Bonanza. Coach Jonathan Hillis describes a well-rounded team effort in Monday's victory. The second-year Challengers coach says Madyson Winters, Autumn Murray, Taylor Folin, and Ellie Vanlandingham did some great link-up play in the first 20 minutes to establish the team. Four early shots tested the Raiders' goalkeeper. Murray broke the ice in the 25th minute, winning a ball at the top of the box, and getting a yard to shoot, blasting a finish in the side net. The senior who has moved into an attacking midfielder role this season launched another shot 6 minutes into the second half that was denied by Lost River, but Emma Coats took the deflection and knocked it home to make it 2-0. 17 minutes later, Murray earned the brace (a second goal) by bagging a shot near the top of the box after shaking Raider defenders. Hillis says his team dominated possession in the second half and their improving passing helped set up the goals that came after intermission. Jordynn Jones, Mae Ferreira, and Amelia Vanlandingham led the way for the Cascade defense, while Josie Scaglione and Shiloh Rud earned a clean sheet, each playing a half at goalie. By Jim McCoy
