Medford, OR — St. Mary’s may have won over Cascade Christian Monday, but the Challengers didn’t make it easy in a 1-0 defensive struggle. The Crusaders’ goalkeeper recorded nine saves against Cascade Christian’s attack. Emma Coats and Ellie Vanlandingham worked the wings, making several down line breakaways and crosses. Bella Williams and Jordynn Jones played strong in the central midfield area, creating opportunities and closing down St. Mary’s from developing play up the middle. The freshman defensive unit of Mae Ferreira, Amelia Vanlandingham, and Emma Matters showed incredible grit as they kept St. Mary’s from any goals in the second half. The crusaders only goal came in the first half from a 40 yard boot that soared high in the air and snuck under the cross bar into the goal. Autumn Murray, Aubrey Hess, Taylor Folin, Ellie, and Bella, all took several shots on goal, without finding the back of the net. By Jim McCoy
