San Juan Capistrano, CA — Disappointing loss for the DH1 squad this afternoon, following an all doubles win (12-9) vs San Clemente in our season opener. With DH2 losing at Fountain Valley, FS overall record is now 6 wins vs 6 losses….need to step it back up! We got ambushed today in singles, winning only 3 of 9 sets played. MVP honors to GG Fernandez, who won 100% of her sets played, both tie-breakers! Honorable mention to Alexandra Marsh who battled long and hard all afternoon, playing 3 tough sets and coming within a couple of TB points from winning 2 of 3. Great effort today. While doubles strength wins championships and is the easiest way to move up the ladder to next team level, we need good singles players to step up as well; so it’s good to see solid singles play at the Frosh Soph level. We placed 9 girls in doubles, 3 to a team, each playing twice. MVP Honors go to line #1 who won all 3 sets played, including 2 tie-breakers! Captain Faith Blower + Kate Layk + Chiara Manta. MVP Honors also to Riley Godber who won both of her sets played at line #2 doubles, one set each with Peyton Salas and Molly Harrington. Well done Riley. Despite the loss, there was some exciting tennis played at our school this afternoon. Remember, this team beat us last year 3 times and we never even won 1 set! (21-0, 18-0, 21-0). Today we won 4 of 7 tie-breaker sets, that’s how close this match was. Next up: Monday, Oct. 3rd home vs Canyon, 2:30pm.
