San Juan Capistrano, CA — It’s been awhile since we’ve played the visiting Gaels from Las Vegas’ Bishop Gorman High School. We’ve beaten them a few times in the past at the varsity level in the Sage Hill Prep Classic. Because the Gaels travel with their whole team, we’ve always suggested having the JV team play at JSerra, while their varsity team is at Sage Hill (even after not being invited ourselves, because we won too much!) Well, that match happened today, as our JV team soundly defeated their varsity subs, 14-4. THANK YOU to Cordelia Cieplucha who helped us out today, so that we would have 9 participants - she was one of our MVP players, winning all 3 sets played: 6-2, 6-0, 6-0. Well done! Singles dominated, winning all 9 sets, 6 of them by the score of 6-0! Earning those other 6 set wins, kudos to our other singles MVP’s: Sophia Staff and Neeka Barkhordar. One doubles team earned MVP honors today, winning all 3 sets played: Hailey Klein and Caitlyn Davidson. They were the only team able to handle the Gael’s #1 team up on court 6. Great play today. Coming close, honorable mention to Captain Ava Hetland and Cecilia Nama, who forced a tie-breaker vs their top team, but could not close the deal after winning their first 2 sets. This was a good win today for our JV team. Bishop Gorman is a very prestigious private Roman Catholic high school in Las Vegas. Their coach and parents were very impressed with our courts, scoreboard, the shade! (they practice and play in 105• temperature!) but most of all, our kind-hearted girls and the courteous nature with which we hosted them. Thank you all for continuing to represent your school proudly and professionally, as always! Next up: Tuesday, Oct. 4th vs Rosary at Fullerton Tennis Center, 2:30pm.
