Gorham, ME — GORHAM, Maine – Junior Tamrah Gould (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Memorial) scored a career-high 16 points on 4-of-6 from three, and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line to lead three players in double figures scoring as the University of Southern Maine Huskies defeated the Plymouth State University Panthers 68-46 in a Little East Conference women's basketball game Wednesday night at Hill Gymnasium. Gould added seven rebounds and two steals in a standout performance for the Huskies. Junior Amy Fleming (Berwick, Maine/Noble) added 14 points, three assists, three rebounds and two blocked shots, while classmate Franny Ramsdell (Wells, Maine) added 10 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Maria Degifico (South Portland, Maine) filled the stat sheet with nine points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals, while junior Ashlee Aceto (South Portland, Maine) snagged a career-best 10 rebounds. Freshman Emma Haskell (Hampden, Maine) scored seven points in her first collegiate start. Plymouth State's Jalen Cook had 12 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double to highlight the Panthers, while Sophie George led PSU with 14 points. Sabrina Vlahovic matched Cook on the boards with 10 rebounds. The Records: Plymouth State (4-7, 0-5 Little East) Southern Maine (4-6, 2-2 Little East) Series History: Tonight's game was the 95th contest between Southern Maine and Plymouth State. Southern Maine leads the overall series 87-8. The Huskies defeated Plymouth State 70-38 in their last meeting on February 9, 2022. USM has won the last nine straight over PSU. How It Happened: After a cold-shooting effort in the first quarter from both sides, Southern Maine headed into the second quarter up 9-7 as Gould canned a long-range buzzer beating three. The score remained close in the second quarter, and USM held just a 14-12 lead with 4:05 to play after PSU's Lauren Keller hit a three before rattling off a 16-4 run over the final four minutes to take a 30-16 lead at the half. Gould and Haskell each had five points on a three and two free throws a piece, while Fleming knocked down a three for the final bucket of the second quarter. USM outscored PSU 21-9 in the quarter. In the third, Gould continued to score netting five of the Huskies first eight points of the second half, interrupted only by a three from Degifico, as the Huskies led 38-20 with 6:18 left in the quarter. PSU used a 7-0 run from the 3:34 to the 1:53 mark to cut its deficit to 12, 41-29, but USM went point for point in the closing moments to led 44-32 headed to the fourth. Highlighted by an and-one play from sophomore Gabby Green (Manchester, Maine/Maranacook), the Huskies scored the first five points of the fourth and continued to roll. A three from Gould at the 5:21 mark gave USM a 21-point lead 58-37, and the Huskies stayed comfortably in front the rest of the way, snagging its largest lead of the game, 65-41, at 1:50 to play. Inside The Stats: Southern Maine scored 21 of its 68 points off of Panther turnovers. PSU turned the ball over 22 times in the contest. The Huskies also dominated the paint with a 24-10 advantage. Plymouth State had a 14-10 lead in second chance points, snagging 15 offensive rebounds against USM. USM was 18-for-25 from the free throw line. Plymouth State was 11-for-14. .
