Manhattan Beach, CA — The G06 Silzer girls were able to hold off a tough Beach FC South Bay Lopez team this afternoon to secure another win. While the breeze from the nearby coastline was cool and relaxing for the spectators, it was another story for the girls playing on the field, and our Slammer girls battled through both the wind and the physical aggressiveness of their opponents to get the ball into the net. The first goal came in the 4th minute of the first half, when one of our Slammer girls was taken down inside the box, resulting in a PK and a well-placed shot to the lower left corner of the goal. The second goal came in the second half, and was NOT when another Slammer player took a shot on goal with a powerful kick that struck the left post and immediate bounced to the far right side of the goal, passing the post and not crossing inside for the all. As the jubilant shout of the parents who were already celebrating the second goal, turned into confusion as the ball bounded safely away from the goal, it became clear to all that there was still much work to be done. The second goal actually came in the final moments of the game, when a shot from the back line was determined to make it way past both teams and become ever elusive as it tricked the goalie into failing to stop it from slowly rolling into the goal to secure the 2-0 win. Keep up the hard work girls!
