Irvine, CA — The Girls Water Polo Team used a second half surge and excellent goaltending to swim past Woodbridge High School on Tuesday, defeating the Warriors 12-6 in non-conference play. The Lions came out strong, taking a 3-2 lead at the end of the first, only to have the Warriors battle back in the second and take a 5-3 lead to close out the half. The Lions roared back in the 3rd quarter, going on a three-goal run in the first two minutes to retake the lead, this time for good. The girls continued their push into the fourth quarter and held the Warriors scoreless for the final frame. The Lions were led offensively by Zoe Gabriel who had five goals in the contest. Sloane Paulson was close behind with four goals of her own. In Cage, Micaela Martz not only made some big saves, but helped ignite the offense in the with some key outlet passes that led to goals. It was a fun game to watch. It really gave me a glimpse of how great the rest of our season is going to be. It was so much fun watching everyone create opportunities for themselves and their teammates on offense. We are a fast team this year, and we really wore them down by the 3rd quarter. On Defense the girls communicated and worked together all night which was great to see.
