Santa Ana, CA — Varsity boys picked up where JV left off, securing the victory over Orange HS 6-2 at home last night. The Knights went down 0-1 early off a long ball played in over the top with a great finish by Orange, placing the ball over the advancing keeper, Senior Tommy Gunther. The Knights regrouped and Senior Joey Benitez responded soon after to make it 1-1 on a breakaway with the finish between the keeper's legs. Just as Foothill seemed to be taking over, Orange scored again to go up 2-1 on a miscommunication in the back. Foothill refocused and found Benítez once more to equalize 2-2. The first half ended up tied despite Foothill controlling more of the half and having more dangerous chances. The Knights overwhelmed the Panthers in the second half with 4 unanswered goals and defense and midfield locking down and silencing the Orange attack. Goals in the second half came by way of Sophmore, Matthew Mendoza - 2, Senior Dylan Salazar - 1, and Senior Nelson "Junior" Marmolejo sent a dangerous ball in that resulted in an own goal. It was a great warmup for season to come.
