San Diego, CA — Saturday night produced one of the more thrilling games and most unlikely endings you will ever see. The game itself was fantastic from start to finish. Our team played very well and yet were up against a team that was equal to the task and honestly had us beat going into the final seconds. With the game tied and a minute to go, Westview made a final surge and grabbed the momentum to push their lead to 6 points with about 12 seconds remaining. In our timeout, our guys displayed the focus necessary to execute flawlessly as Junior Dane Grippo drove hard to the basket and found Senior Shamar Wright at the top of the key. Shamar hit the 3 pointer and was fouled in the process! After making the FT and narrowing the lead to 2 Westview missed 2 FTs (from a 91% shooter). Shamar Wright rebounded, drove just across the half court line and elevated for a last second game winning shot. Instead, he had the poise and presence of mind to fire a pass to an open Dane Grippo under the basket. Dane caught the ball made the layup at the buzzer and was fouled as the buzzer went off! Then Dane proceeded to hit the FT to win the game by a point. A 4 point play followed by a 3 point play in the final 6 seconds! An incredibly special moment for the guys and a remarkable win that would not have happened without the poise and teamwork necessary to pull out such a victory. Game 4 of the season will be Wednesday night at home against El Camino High at 7:00. Hope to see everyone there!
