Wildomar, CA — Whew......got away with one last night! An incredibly poor shooting display caught us in major trouble last night but we were able to survive against a tough Elsinore team. Despite leading most of the game, we found ourselves down 1 with 12 seconds left after Elsinore converted on a layup. Having been in this situation a couple times already this season, our guys responded brilliantly........getting the ball up the court quickly, executing 2 out of bounds plays perfectly coming out of timeouts, and ultimately scoring the winning basket with 3 seconds left to win the game! Our guys continue to show that they can and do perform well under pressure, a trait that not all teams have, but that championship teams need. I am hopeful that this pattern continues as the season enters league play and eventually the playoffs. Senior Gio Sanders played great last night in a tough environment, and dealt with the pressure well both controlling the ball and with the game winning pass to Shamar. He continues to shine "behind the scenes" and is as reliable as we could hope for to this point. Senior Shamar Wright converted on the game winning shot and finished with a team high 16 points. We didn't get him as many touches as we need from him last night but I am sure part of that was due to Elsinore's tenacious defense. Collectively, our entire team got the job done on the defensive end and the boards. Juniors Devin Fortune, Anthony Salas, Dane Grippo, and Jonah Zandi did not have big offensive nights but they all did a great job fighting on the defensive end throughout the game. Our next game will be this Saturday at Temecula Valley High School against Heritage.....we play at 4:00.
