Groton, MA — The Mountaineers improved to 4 and 0 on the season with a 6-3 win over Groton-Dunstable on Wednesday night. The first line of Senior Captain Dennis Jardine, Junior Jason Flaherty, and Freshman Cody Penniman combined for 5 goals and 3 assists to lead the team to victory. At the 6:10 mark of the first period, Penniman took a puck down the left side and crossed to the middle of the ice where he wristed a shot to the back of the net. Just 95 seconds later, Flaherty scored Power Play Goal that was assisted by Parker Meyer. With under 1:30 left in the first Jardine scored his first on an assist from Flaherty from behind the net. With a 3-0 lead to start the 2nd, Groton came out with a different intensity. After withstanding some early pressure, Matt Bjorkman scored a power play goal on a rebound to put Wachusett up 4-0. That goal was assisted by Jardine and Thomas Willman. Groton would score the next two goals to bull within 4-2, but Jardine scored a power play goal in the last 30 seconds of the period to give the momentum back to the green and white. Willman added another assist to that goal. In the third, Groton would score first to get the game to 5-3, but halfway through the period, Jardine completed his hat trick on an unassisted tally, securing the win for Wachusett.
