Westborough, MA — Wachusett keeps finding ways to win as they recorded their 4th straight win on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Minnechaug on Senior Night. After a pre-game ceremony to honor the twelve seniors, Wachusett and Minnechaug skated to a 0-0 draw in the first period. Dennis Jardine put Wachusett on the board at the 33 second mark of the second period when he intercepted a pass in the neutral zone and walked in to score a short-handed goal to put the Mountaineers up 1-0. Minnechaug would score at the 3:50 mark of the 2nd to tie the game and that's how it would stay until midway through the 3rd period. Casey Dmochowski came up huge in the middle of the second period when he stopped a breakaway with a great right pad save. A scrum after the save would lead to a major penalty on the Mountaineers and Wachusett would successfully kill off the power play. Wachusett again was sent to the sin bin. This time, two players were called for two separate infractions during the same whistle leading to a full 2-minute 5 on 3 advantage for Minnechaug. Excellent penalty killing by Dennis Jardine, Parker Meyer, Thomas Willman, Braeden McKenzie, Xavier McManus, Cody Penniman, Kyle O'Keefe, Clark Gardula, Nick Brousseau, and Will Savino was clutch in getting this W. After finally killing off all the penalties, Wachusett would get a power play of its own halfway through the 3rd. Great puck movement led to a pass to Thomas Willman where he rifled a shot that broke through the goalie and ended up being the game-winner. Meyer and Jardine earned the two assists on the goal. Dmochowski was solid all night stopping 17 of 18 Minnechaug shots. Our Senior Night Ceremony honored our 12 seniors: Jackson Allaire, Casey Dmochowski, Luke Halvorsen, Dennis Jardine, Andrew Joslyn, Patrick McGugan, Braeden McKenzie, Xavier McManus, Kyle O'Keefe, Aidan Riley, Will Savino, and Alec Thibeault. And a special thanks to all the parents who helped decorate the rink in Green and White and tons of hockey pictures to make this such a memorable night. The team is now 11 and 4 on the season and will travel to the Wallace Civic Center on Wednesday for a rematch of a Roy-Conference matchup with North Middlesex at 4:30 pm.
