Guyton, GA — The Ola Mens Lacrosse team traveled down From Macdonough GA to take on the South Effingham Mustangs. It would be the mustangs first victory of the season and a dominant one. Ola played tough throughout and never gave up getting a few last minute goals to help heal their bruised bodies and egos. Junior captain Eli George opened the scoring from a Chase Whittle assist at a minute forty five into the game. Ola would answer back tying the game at one a piece when on a failed clear attempt by the mustangs an Ola attackman caught goalie Julio Aponte out of his crease for what would be the only goal Aponte would allow in the first half! With a little over five minutes into the first, Junior Kaden DeGenaro spotted George cutting on the crease again and got himself an assist and George his second of the day. With a minute and forty five seconds left in the first quarter George would take things into his own hands, dodging from X and beating the Ola double team for an easy dunk on the doorstep. Not much a goalie can do about that! That would complete the hat trick for Eli George and all in the first quarter. Forty five seconds into the second quarter the mustangs would put another point on the board when from X, Junior midfielder Dominic Martell, would find Sophomore Lincoln Siegrist on the crease for an easy finish. Around two and a half minutes into the second, Chase Whittle would dodge and weave his way through the Ola ride, finding DeGenaro just outside of the box. DeGenaro would drive past his man, drawing a slide, freeing up the still hustling Whittle for an awesome transition give and go goal giving the stangs a five one lead. With just over eight minutes left in the half, the mustangs would find themselves in an extra man situation. With some quick ball movement on the outside, Martell would tally his second of the day with a great lefty step down shot from 12 yards out putting the mustangs up six to one. Martell would set a pick at X for George causing DeJaVux all over again with George slashing through the defense and dunking on the defenseless Ola goalkeeper. Just a minute into the third quarter Senior Jensen Privette picked up an Ola failed clear at the midfield and ran it all the way in for a one on one with the Ola goalie giving the mustangs a 9-1 lead. With 6:21 left in the 3rd quarter Eli George once again took his man to the house, dodging from X and getting a point blank slam dunk on the obviously frustrated Ola goalie for a 10-1 lead. George would contribute an assist on the Adan Saturday goal at 2:37 in the 3rd quarter when going back to the well once again and driving through X, the Ola defense finally slid, and Eli completed a pass to the front of the crease where a waiting Saturday buried it in the back of the net to make it 11-1. Martell would put a cap on the scoring, after dodging through the Ola defense from the far wing, and stinging the net with a left handed shot on the run beating the goalie high bringing the count to 12 -1. In the fourth quarter Ola found a second wind, and in the last few minutes strung together a mini comeback, but it was too little too late as they rattled off four goals in quick succession, but ultimately the time ran out with the final score of 12-5. Ola showed great spirit and competitiveness and we look forward to playing them again in the future.
