Denver, CO — The Spartans moved to 4-3 on the year and 2-0 in conference play with an 11-4 victory over the Lincoln Lancers at All-City Stadium yesterday. The Spartans scored early and often as they plated runs in each of the first 5 innings on the way to a 6-0 lead. Owen Roetto made his first career start on the mound and held the Lancers offense in check for the first 4 innings. Lincoln loaded the bases in the bottom of the 5th inning with 0 outs and a run in as Max Hauer relieved Roetto and got a strike out and pop out. But a softly hit grounder to the right side allowed a run to score, while another plated on a throwing error on the same play. Hauer struck out the last batter of the inning to maintain a 6-3 lead. The Spartans struck for 5 runs in the top of the 7th to extend the lead to 11-3, highlighted by Sloan Steimel's 2 run triple to the right-center gap, his second 3 bagger of the game. Henry Shukert shut the game down as he pitched the last 2 innings, striking out 3 and allowing an unearned run for his first career save. TJ walked 10 times in the game and stole a staggering 15 bases that led to their 11 runs on only 7 hits. The Spartans return home today to play DPL rival Denver East Angels at 4 pm.
