Bellingham, WA — In a game that was played on a difficult field surface, Anacortes struggled early to find a rhythm. Ten minutes into the second half, Meridian took the lead on a counter attack. As the game wore on, the Seahawks ratcheted up the pressure and created several scoring chances missing a point blank shot from inside the six yard box and then hitting the crossbar. Finally with two minutes remaining in the game, Aaron McClellan received a beautiful cross from Owen Foley and buried a header in the back of the net. Coach’s Commentary - This was a tough match. The field conditions had a major impact on the nature of the game. With an incredibly narrow grass surface, we struggled. Using runs from our wings is a major part of our attack, and the lack of width eliminated that almost completely. As a result, the game overall was pretty sloppy, however, I’m proud of our guys for being able to overcome adversity and fight back in the final minutes to tie the match. It not only showed character in their part, but also revealed some of the growth and maturity that they are experiencing as a relatively young team.
