Stratford, CT — Sun was shining brightly, but conditions were brisk and cool with a steady wind blowing as Stratford High opened the 2023 season today vs. Foran at Penders Field losing 8-1. Being a Sunday, a nice crowd was on hand filling the bleachers and lining the fence line along the first base foul line. Stratford’s starter Senior Dylan McCain cruised through the first two innings with an array of strikes, strikeouts and some great defensive support via a 6-6-3 double play initiated by Senior shortstop Ben Petrie. The 3rd inning proved to be a tough one as Foran drew 3 baserunners with 2 outs via 2 walks and 1 hit by pitch. That was followed by a HR deep to CF and Foran never looked back. Junior Jake Lubas relieved McCain in the 4th and finished the back end of the game yielding 4 more runs. Stratford was led at the plate by Senior Joe Booska who went 1-2 with 2 walks and 1 RBI which followed his single to RF in the bottom of the 7th. Stratford’s other hits were recorded by Senior Ty Owen, Senior Conor Lesczczynski, and Junior Damon Weller. Stratford returns to action on Monday as the visiting team against Notre Dame of Fairfield at Penders Field at 3:45. Penders Field is the venue as ND’s field is still not ready for the season.
