Stratford, CT — Stratford rebounded quickly from Sunday’s Opening Day loss with a start to finish win over Notre Dame of Fairfield 11-2. The sight of the game was Penders Field, but Stratford played as the visitors hosting Notre Dame whose field remain unplayable as of Monday. Stratford jumped out of the gate scoring 2 runs, 1 run, 4 runs, and 3 more runs in the first 4 innings and never looked back. Senior and winning pitcher Ben Petrie got the start on the mound for Stratford, went 6 full innings, gave up only 2 runs, 3 hits & struck out a total of 8 ND batters. Sophomore Ethan Hill came in for the 7th and registered a 1-2-3 inning with one strikeout to close out the game. Stratford was led at the plate by Senior Conor Lesczczynski who went 2-4 with 1 run and 2 RBI, Junior Zach Rider who went 2-3 with 2 runs, 2 RBI, and 2 walks, and Junior Damon Weller who went 1-4 with 3,runs scored. Defensively Stratford’s middle infield with Senior Joe Booska at SS and Junior Damon Weller at 2B turned three 6-4-3 double plays to end potential ND rallies.
