Stratford, CT — On a cold, raw day win a steady win blowing and drizzle and mist continuing throughout the game, Stratford High hosted Darien in what turned out to be a pitchers’ duel in ‘wintry’ conditions at Penders Field. Senior Joe Booska took the ball and ended up posting zeros in 6 out of the 7 innings. Stratford held at bay and scoreless through 5 innings showed a never-give-up attitude and drive and finally got things going in the bottom of the 6th with a lead-off Booska double to right center, an Booska advance to 3B on an IF ground out, and then a Senior Jake Kszywanos IF single to plate Booska with Stratford’s first run. Subsequent bases loaded walks by Senior Cam Kelemen and Junior Damon Weller then plated the tying & go-ahead runs for Stratford. It then got interesting in the bottom of the 7th as Darien advance runners to 2nd & 3rd with 2 outs, but Booska with a 6-3 groundout handled by Senior Ben Petrie ended the threat. Stratford wins and moves to 2-1 on the young season. Next up - East Catholic on Saturday at 11:00 at Penders Field which happens to be the big 39th edition of the Penders Memorial Scholarship Game.
