Caledonia, MI — Varsity Caledonia Fighting Scots stole the lead late in the game in a 4-2 victory over Grandville on Tuesday. Varsity Caledonia Fighting Scots trailed 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Derrek Pennington doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs. Grandville opened up scoring in the first inning, when Justin LaCroix reached on a dropped third strike. Canyon Veldhouse earned the victory on the hill for Varsity Caledonia Fighting Scots. The pitcher went six innings, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out six and walking one. Mitchell Smith threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Smith recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Varsity Caledonia Fighting Scots. Andrew Pohlmann took the loss for Grandville. Pohlmann went four and a third innings, allowing four runs on five hits and striking out five. AJ Szabo went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Varsity Caledonia Fighting Scots in hits.
