Covina, CA — In a must win situation in Hacienda League play, the Charter Oak boys varsity basketball team pulled off a 43-40 victory over the visiting Walnut Mustangs on Wednesday night. After two tough loses to Diamond Ranch and Los Altos on the road last week, the Chargers returned home to stay unbeaten on their home court. Walnut was recently ranked fifth in the San Gabriel Valley by the Tribune. The Chargers came out of the gates with solid defense holding the Mustangs to only six points in the opening quarter. Charter Oak was lead in scoring by seniors Chase Evans and Reuben Carrillo with 12 points a piece. In crunch time, up by one point and with possession of the ball, senior guard Noah Que was fouled and sent to the line. Que nailed both free throws and the Chargers played solid defense on the last possession to seal the victory. Walnut is 14-5, 1-2 on the year, while the Chargers improve to 12-5, 1-2. CO plays host to Chino High School on Friday evening at 6:30pm.
