Sandy Hook, CT — The top-seeded Newtown High School girls' lacrosse team got eight goals from Summer Harrell en route to a 19-6 win over No. 8 Bethel in the South-West Conference Tournament quarterfinals, at Blue & Gold Stadium, on May 18. Newtown led 9-5 early in the second half before reeling off six goals in a span of 7:11 to seize control. Brooke Bulkley had four goals, Jules Battaglia scored three times, and Bella Gerace and Ava Mitchell both scored twice. With the win, the Nighthawks advance to host No. 5 Pomperaug of Southbury in the semifinals, scheduled for Monday, May 22, at 6 pm. The No. 5 NHS boys' lacrosse team went to No. 4 Bethel and came from behind and then hung to earn a thrilling 7-6 win. Sean Reilly netted the game winner.
